IEEE SUM 2026 Concludes Successfully

IEEE SUM 2026 concluded successfully in Tulum, Mexico, where I was honored to chair the EP3D topical.

The 2026 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topicals Meeting Series (SUM) concluded successfully on July 15 in Tulum, Mexico. I was honored to chair EP3D—Electronic-Photonic Systems at Scale: Architecture, Methodology, and Going 3D.

EP3D brought together system architecture, design methodology, and 3D integration to explore how electronic-photonic systems can move from research demonstrations to deployable platforms. The program spanned devices, circuits, chiplets, substrates and packaging, 3D photonics, and design automation, with applications extending beyond communications and accelerators.

I am deeply grateful to our keynote speakers Keren Bergman and Nandish Mehta; tutorial speaker Joaquin Matres; and invited speakers Stanley Cheung, Jinxi Huang, Aneek James, Sajjad Moazeni, Mahdi Nikdast, Richard Penty, Nan Qi, Anthony Rizzo, Bei Shi, Bassem Tossoun, and Xu Wang. Their outstanding contributions made the topical a success.

Many thanks as well to the co-chairs, program committee, organizers, and everyone who joined us in Tulum for the stimulating discussions and community building!
